Re: Switch Element V6

I am getting more used to the 7m each time I use it. I took it out yesterday when I could have been on the 5m, and found that I was keeping the kite higher and more depowered. It is interesting though how a one strut kite seems to be "softer" when a gust hits, i.e. it seems to absorb some of the gus...

Re: Switch Element V6

I am loving the one strut 5m Element V6 for foiling. Power can be turned off and on on demand, it's zippy but predictable, and it's so mellow and forgiving. The wind range for me is 20-30 knots. If I was regularly going to kite in 30+ knots, the 4m would be better, it is after all a 20% decrease in ...

Re: Need help, 10m Legacy vs 10m Nitro?

Go Legacy if you like going unhooked. The high end of the Legacys is really very good, holding on a 10m in 30 knot gusts is possible but I'd be on a 8m.
Legacy kite loops are pretty intense, but it will catch you better on the uploop as well.

Re: New Legacy 2?

I have ridden a Legacy 2 in the 8m size and couldn't pick any difference in feel from the original Legacy. That is a good thing IMHO, the Legacy 1 10m and 8m are hands down the best kites I have ever ridden. The Legacy 2 has bigger struts to aid relaunch and the trailing edge looks more scalloped to...

Re: Fun quotient, nitro vs legacy?

Go Legacy if you want to learn unhooked jumps and tricks.
The Nitro probably has a wider wind range, but the Legacy is still excellent.
Both kites scream upwind and jump big.

Re: Helium 2 Video Location

You're correct, that is the Maketu headland in the background. The beach is called Pukehina and the estuary is Little Waihi.

Re: Helium2 18m Loop and initial thoughts

I am the same weight as you and I can hold onto my Helium V1 18m in 17 knots. It has a lot of depower, but at 15 knots I start wishing that I was on something smaller, just because a smaller kite would be faster with less drag. It is also not a kite where you can edge hard, push the kite to the edge...

Re: Kite Aitutaki

Air NZ flies through Rarotonga, Aitutaki is a 20 min plane ride (or a very slow boat ride) north of there. You can kite in Rarotonga as well (mostly Muri lagoon) but it is not as spectacular as Aitutaki. The predominant wind is the south-east trades, but they aren't 100% reliable. There can be week ...

Re: The Legacy is Amazing.

Hi Bill, The kite is Daniel's with a stock 5 line setup and a shorter than normal bar. I was in suboptimal conditions, 15 knots on a 10m so I had to bear away to build up enough speed to pop. The slack may well become more apparent in more wind. What impressed me was that I could have so much fun in...

Re: The Legacy is Amazing.

I had my first go on a 10m Legacy today. The wind was initially only 12 knots and I could cruise OK on a large surfboard. It stays in the air better than a 11m Combat as it is lighter. I did get a bit of back-stalling on gybes but that was probably user error and trim. The wind came up to 15 knots, ...
